IDLE WAVE

GUY BATTAGLIA

Songwriter

Guy Battaglia, 26

Fronts the Alternative

& Indie Rock band

 from Asbury, Park NJ.

Idle Wave is an Alternative and Indie-Rock band from Asbury Park, NJ.

In years past, Idle Wave has been best described as an Alternative Punk band "embodying the anthemic garage rock sound of Weezer with the hard-truth lyricism of The Wonder Years". Now, the band is stepping away from its roots and branching into the ever-growing Indie-Alternative world. With a new album on the horizon, Idle Wave has stepped into the likes of an Indie-Pop artist who beats on with an Emo heart; influenced by the styles of Oso-Oso, Prince Daddy & the Hyena, Green Day, The Front Bottoms, Brand New, and Julian Baker.

You can catch Idle Wave performing predominately around Asbury Park, NJ, and across NJ's tri-state area

(NYC, Philadelphia).

OUR STORY

(LONG FORM)

Fronted by singer/songwriter Guy Battaglia, Idle Wave first debuted as a four-piece Pop-punk band in late 2017. After years of gigging around New Jersey and nearly perfecting their Self-Titled EP, the momentum of Idle Wave came to a striking halt when one of their members decided to leave the band for other life pursuits. Along with said events, each member agreed that they were all headed in different directions creatively. In 2019, Guy parted ways with his former bandmates and ultimately terminated the band’s identity as a strict Pop-Punk group. Despite all their hard work, the other members chose to start over elsewhere. However, Guy was not quick to abandon the reputation that he had built with Idle Wave and continued booking shows where he performed songs from the Self-Titled EP through the end of 2019. Though the dismantling of his long-term friends as bandmates was very disappointing at first glance, Guy knew that their differences were only growing larger and that his visions for Idle Wave couldn’t hold off any longer.

Although the former members have chosen different paths, they occasionally appear in Idle Wave’s music videos and live performances together.

There was a fragment in time that Guy wasn’t sure where to take Idle Wave after it dismantled, but it wasn’t long before he found that direction in the solace of his own writing. In lieu of the missing bandmates, Guy dove deeper into his own company. With no one to impress and no one to disappoint, Guy began rearranging old tunes and executing new songs that had nothing to do with being in a Pop-Punk band; he just let the music come from within. No expectations. No formula. Just what comes to mind. Guy described his writing style during this time simply as “a second stream of his consciousness”.

With no specific deadline and all the opportunity to be unconventional, Party Guy was nearly complete by the end of 2019.

Gaining confidence and trust in his own dreams, Guy continued on as the face of Idle Wave with an ambitious goal to release a fresh and new eight-song LP. This newfound self-determination would eventually lead to an apt to work with like-minded visionaries; resulting in a number of collaborations between other creators, musicians, and producers. The first among these individuals include producer Erik Kase Romero (Still Hungry, The Front Bottoms), who engineered all of “Party Guy” between late 2019 and early 2020.

Idle Wave continued to perform the Self-Titled EP with guest musicians while they secretly recorded “Party Guy”

Since Idle Wave regularly performed around Asbury Park prior to the members split, Guy chose to continue booking shows that featured their 2018 Self-Titled record until early 2020 (just prior to the release of their new single “Home”). Whilst many fans were anxious or even confused about what was soon to come, the decision to continue performing the Self-Titled EP helped Idle Wave remain engaged with their respected audience. Often, the band used these performances and opportunities to test out the new unexpected materials.

To fund the production of “Party Guy” on his own, Guy picked up a second job as a delivery driver; often sacrificing his own sleep and health just to secure studio time.

Without the former support of four band members, Guy found himself not only burdened with the financial responsibility of producing Idle Wave’s next album but managing his own career in every corner. That was until he met Sara Kate; a young and aspiring artist manager looking to develop her own interest in A&R. Call it fate if you will, but through similar determination and a common interest in what one another aspire to achieve, Sara and Guy merged as a team. From creating content to handling booking and business, Sara was able to take a large percent of the pressure off of Guy whilst he finished the record. In an industry as cutthroat and demanding as Music, Guy and Sara became each other’s backbone. Dedicated to a similar dream, Sara Kate has provided Guy her loyal support as a creative visionary and business professional throughout the extent of 2019 and beyond. Today, the two tirelessly collaborate on every unique aspect and decision of the band as the only two official members of Idle Wave.

LATEST RELEASE

PARTY GUY: FEBRUARY 19TH 2021

The 2020 singles, "Home" and "Stay", will be included in the studio album "Party Guy" which may come off to former fans as an "unpredictable", yet satisfying catalog of emotions that encaptures the turmoils of breakups on all avenues. Whether this theme of breakup defines the separation of the former band members, general relationships, or even one's own internal struggles, frontman and songwriter Guy Battaglia announced his approach to these songs as "a second stream of his consciousness".

A tracklist of "Party Guy" was first revealed in the official music video for the Idle Wave single, "Wolves"

The Summer 2020 single, "Wolves" (as an experimental shift), foreshadows a new musical identity for Idle Wave. While "Wolves" stands alone from its counter releases altogether, we hope it shows our eager audience a taste of what they can expect from the band in the near future.
